“A cozy peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz brings belonging, inspires recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing…” Leatrice Eisman

Have you ever though about what would Christmas be without the colors red and green? Or what if you saw a traffic light shining blue, orange and purple? It would probably seem that the world has gone haywire. For centuries certain colors have been distinctly associated with specific emotions, events or actions. It is a visual language that we all understand. It is also true when considering color in our homes, different hues will bring about different energies to our spaces.

So, the job of The Pantone Color Institute, which turns 25 this year, is to educate, inspire, and promote fluency in the language of color across industries and throughout the world. Leatrice Eiseman, the Executive Director of Pantone says “In 2023, we celebrated coming out of the malaise of the last year…we feel that next year, with so much whirling in the atmosphere around us, there will be a need for some quiet, some peace, some respite, and that’s what that Peach Fuzz will be for us.”

The Color of the Year is reflective of a lifestyle trend. Peach color shades have traditionally been viewed as feminine in nature. Today we might associate them with the 80’s fashion and undeniably retro interiors from the 60’s and 70’s, or the recently released “Barbie” movie with Ryan Gosling’s larger than life pastel pink Gucci suit he sported to the premiere. Peach shades were so popular in the previous decades, but make no mistake, this shade is fresh and we’re already seeing how modern interpretations of this soft pink color can translate to all lifestyle tastes.

How to use Peach Fuzz in your home.

  1. Be bold and embrace the peach shade by painting the walls of a small bedroom or a secondary bathroom in a color such as SW 6337 Spun Sugar by Sherwin Williams. This color goes well with an accent color such as SW 7001 Marshmallow. You can also choose to paint a tray ceiling in this color.
  2. Not feeling that bold? Accessorize. Drop some muted peach color throw pillows or a woven throw on a sofa, add a rug with specs of peach in it, or showcase a beautiful peach vase on your bookshelf. This way the primary color will still remain a neutral in the home.
  3. Invest in a statement furniture piece in Peach Fuzz, such as a chair, a sofa or a case goods piece.
  4. Bring some “retro” back by renovating a powder room with a 4×4 peach gloss tile wainscoting and a checkered floor pattern. This can pair wonderfully with a luxurious pedestal sink and mirror, and vibrant polished nickel plumbing.

THE UPDATED MURPHY BED

by Ligita, November 22, 2020

The Murphy bed was invented at the beginning of the 20th century and is one of those furniture items that is not the most popular, but will probably be sticking around forever due to its’ versatile and useful nature. Today the murphy beds come in many shapes, forms, sizes, colors and materials. Some versions of the murphy bed include a completely concealed bed system that can be added within a built-in shelving unit in an office, or even seamlessly integrated into the room completely hidden into a wall. Some murphy beds, such as our design below, may actually make a statement piece on a large blank wall. However the design intent, the murphy bed is just the perfect solution to adding extra sleeping beds in a small home, or even in a room that has multiple uses within a home, such as a game room, play room or an office.

So, what exactly is a Murphy Bed? According to Wikipedia “A Murphy bed (in North America), also called a wall bed, pull down bed, or fold-down bed, is a bed that is hinged at one end to store vertically against the wall, or inside a closet or cabinet…Murphy beds are used for space-saving purposes, much like trundle beds, and are popular where floor space is limited, such as small houses, apartments, hotels, mobile homes and college dormitories. In recent years, Murphy bed units have included options such as lighting, storage cabinets, and office components. They have seen a resurgence in popularity in the early 2010s due to the weak economy, with children moving back in with their parents and families choosing to renovate homes rather than purchasing larger ones.”
